Scar Treatment

Scar treatment involves a personalised combination of advanced dermatological procedures designed to improve the appearance, texture and function of scars. Scars form as part of the body’s natural healing process following injury, surgery, acne or inflammation. While scars can never be completely erased, modern dermatology offers a wide range of highly effective treatments that can significantly reduce their visibility and improve overall skin quality.

There are many different types of scars, including acne scars, surgical scars, traumatic scars, hypertrophic scars and keloid scars. Each scar behaves differently and requires a tailored treatment approach. Some scars are raised, while others are depressed, discoloured or associated with tightness that can restrict movement. For this reason, an accurate diagnosis is essential before selecting the most appropriate treatment.

Professor Firas Al-Niaimi performs a detailed assessment of every scar, taking into account its type, age, location and severity before developing an individualised treatment plan. Depending on the scar characteristics, treatment may involve advanced laser technology, surgical techniques, injectable treatments or a combination of several procedures to achieve the best possible cosmetic outcome.

For many patients, Fractional Laser or Laser Resurfacing provides an excellent solution by stimulating collagen production and remodelling scar tissue. These treatments improve skin texture, soften scar edges and encourage healthier, smoother skin while preserving the surrounding tissue.

Different scars require different treatment strategies. Depressed acne scars may respond particularly well to a combination of Subcision, Fillers for Acne Scars, Microneedling and laser treatments, while raised hypertrophic or keloid scars may benefit from Steroid Injections to help flatten and soften the scar. In selected cases, minor surgical scar revision may also be recommended to improve the final cosmetic appearance.

Successful scar treatment often requires a combination of therapies rather than a single procedure. By addressing different aspects of scar formation, including collagen remodelling, tissue tethering, pigmentation and surface texture, combination treatments frequently produce significantly better long-term results than any individual treatment alone.

Professor Firas Al-Niaimi is internationally recognised for his expertise in scar management and advanced laser dermatology. He has extensive experience treating acne scars, surgical scars and complex traumatic scars using the latest evidence-based techniques. Every treatment plan is carefully tailored to the individual patient’s skin type, scar characteristics and treatment goals to achieve the safest and most effective outcome.

Whether your scar has resulted from acne, surgery, injury or another skin condition, Professor Firas offers a comprehensive range of advanced scar treatments designed to improve both the appearance and function of scar tissue, helping restore smoother, healthier and more confident-looking skin.

What type of scars can be treated?

Most types of scarring can be treated, including: keloid scars, acne scars, burn scars and hypertrophic scars.

How can you treat scars?

Depending on the severity of your scar, there are several different scar treatments to be considered. Dr Firas Al-Niaimi will discuss your suitability for each treatment during your consultation. Scar reduction options include:

Laser resurfacing for scars: Laser treatment is particularly effective for acne scars or facial scar treatment.
Dermal fillers: This technique works by “plumping up” pitted scars.
Both of these techniques will need repeat treatments for maximum results.
Surgical scar removal: This technique uses skin grafts to reduce larger scars.

These techniques can help the scarred skin to repair, leaving a healthier appearance, as well as tightening your skin.

What are the benefits of scar treatment?

The benefits of scar treatment are huge; your self esteem and confidence will also have a real boost, especially when receiving facial scarring treatment and can also stop any itching or irritation from scars.

What aftercare is involved with scar treatment?

Your scar treatment aftercare plan will depend on what specific treatment you have. Dr Firas Al-Niaimi will discuss with you what aftercare will be best for your treatment during your consultation and provide you with a comprehensive aftercare program.
