Profhilo is a unique product that is used in cosmetic dermatology that contains a unique mixture of hyaluronic acid used primarily as hydrating and boosting treatment for the skin. Hyaluronic acid is an acid which is found in our deeper part of the skin called the dermis and is constantly being produced and degraded. It is an essential product given its ability to bind to water and therefore giving a hydrating effect with good turgor of the skin. Synthetic hyaluronic acid differs from the naturally produced type as it lasts longer and degrades slower owing to a special process called “cross-linking”. This process links many hyaluronic acid molecules together with specific bonds leading to increased longevity which translates clinically to results observed in the skin. Depending on the amount of hyaluronic acid (concentration) and the degree of cross-linking there are different biophysical properties of the different synthetic hyaluronic acid products. Some can create lifting whilst others are primarily designed for volumization or hydrating effects. These clinical outcomes depend on how the hyaluronic acid is being manufactured and processed.

Profhilo has a high concentration of hyaluronic acid in both the long and short chains of the molecule and cross-linked in a unique way different from all other existing hyaluronic acid fillers in the market. These characteristics of high concentration and a unique stabilised way of cross-linking provide excellent hydrating effects with a stimulatory effect in the deep layer of the skin (dermis) giving rise to what is described as bio-remodelling effects. Profhilo is therefore not a standard filler for lifting or volumization but is a skin treatment for hydration and bio-remodelling. The results clinically are a well hydrated skin with good turgor and improvement in a dull appearance or fine lines of the skin due to collagen and elastin stimulation.

Profhilo comes in a pre-filled syringe and each syringe is used as a single treatment for the face. It is injected in 5 specific points in the skin and the effects take place withing few weeks. It is recommended to have 2 treatments at 4 weeks apart for optimal results and profhilo can be combined with other cosmetic treatments.
