Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an advanced regenerative treatment that uses the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to rejuvenate the skin, stimulate collagen production and support tissue repair. Widely used in cosmetic dermatology, PRP is created by concentrating platelets from a small sample of the patient’s own blood. These platelets contain a high concentration of growth factors that help promote cell regeneration, collagen formation, improved blood supply and natural tissue healing.
Platelets play a vital role in the body’s healing response. When activated, they release a powerful combination of growth factors and signalling proteins that stimulate collagen production, encourage new blood vessel formation and support the repair of damaged tissue. Because PRP uses your own blood, the treatment is extremely safe, with virtually no risk of allergic reaction or rejection.
PRP is a versatile treatment that can be used for a variety of cosmetic concerns, including facial rejuvenation, Acne Scarring, stretch marks and certain types of hair loss. It is particularly effective when combined with collagen-stimulating procedures, helping to enhance healing while improving overall skin quality and texture.
The treatment begins by taking a small sample of blood from your arm, similar to a routine blood test. The blood is then processed in a specialised centrifuge that separates the platelet-rich plasma from the other blood components. The resulting PRP contains a concentrated supply of platelets and growth factors, which are prepared for immediate treatment to maximise their biological activity.
Once prepared, the Platelet Rich Plasma is carefully applied or injected into the treatment area depending on the condition being addressed. PRP can be delivered directly into the skin using fine injections, combined with Microneedling, or applied following Fractional Laser or Laser Resurfacing treatment, where it penetrates through the microscopic treatment channels to accelerate healing and stimulate collagen production. These combination treatments often provide superior results compared with individual procedures alone.
The procedure typically takes around 30 to 45 minutes and requires little to no downtime. Most patients experience only mild redness or swelling, which settles quickly. A course of treatments is often recommended to achieve optimal results, with sessions commonly performed at monthly intervals depending on the condition being treated and the individual’s response.
Before treatment, Professor Firas Al-Niaimi performs a comprehensive consultation to determine whether PRP is the most appropriate option for your concerns. Every treatment plan is individually tailored, and PRP is often combined with other regenerative and laser treatments to maximise skin rejuvenation and long-term collagen stimulation.
Professor Firas Al-Niaimi has extensive experience using Platelet Rich Plasma as part of advanced regenerative dermatology. By combining evidence-based techniques with personalised treatment planning, he helps patients achieve healthier, smoother and more youthful-looking skin using the body’s own natural healing potential.
